I was once asked the question "When did my healing begin?" My first thought of course was to say "When I first looked at the images Sandy did of my son, Maddux." But I gave this question just an extra second of thought and I can honestly say: "For me, my healing began knowing a photographer had rearranged her schedule and was on her way to our hospital to photograph our last moments with our son Maddux."  - NILMDTS Co- Founder Cheryl Haggard I've recently been accepted as an Affiliated Photographer with the Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep Foundation (NILMDTS). Why I got interested in NILMDTS? Beginning 2008 I shared with a close family member the terrible loss of their 5 month old baby. For me, it was a life-changing experience to have shared with them those heartwrenching moments of losing their little baby boy. At first when I heard of this organization I said to myself “how could ANYONE do this??” But after that day, where I watched this beautiful angel, I thought I would have been honored to be able to offer this special gift to those parents and give them a treasure to "remember" their precious baby. That little angel, Sebastian, inspired me, and will be my constant motivation throughout this difficult journey… What is Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep? Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep is a non-profit organization of photographers that provide portraits for families experiencing the loss of a baby. NILMDTS administers a network of nearly 3,000 volunteer professional photographers in the United States and eight International countries. At a family's request, a NILMDTS Affiliated Photographer will go to the hospital or hospice location and conduct a sensitive and private portrait session. NILMDTS services are offered to any family suffering the loss of a child as early as 25 week gestation, as well as children as old as several months. The portraits are retouched and presented to the families on an CD that can be used to print portraits of their cherished baby. The photographer may also provide a DVD slideshow of selected photos. All affiliated photographers freely donate their time and talent. The photographers receive nocompensation of any kind, nor does the NILMDTS Foundation. There is no cost to the family whatsoever.
